The purpose of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is to provide basic training to improve community self-reliance in the event of a major disaster. During recent major disasters across the world, it has become evident that people are often on their own for up to several days until outside assistance arrives.

 The Layton City CERT course offers basic training in the areas of disaster awareness, CERT team organization, fire suppression, disaster first-aid, search and rescue, disaster psychology and terrorism awareness. The course concludes with a simulated mock disaster where participants apply the skills learned in the course. We now offer the lecture portion online, that you will complete at home. The hands on portion is completed in a classroom with other CERT members. You must complete both the online portion and the hands on to become certified.
