Through Toil and Labor: The Forgotten History of Utah’s Chinese Railroad Workers.

Utah is closely tied to the history of the transcontinental railroad. With the meeting of the Union Pacific railway coming from the East and the Central Pacific coming from the West at Promontory Point, Utah became connected by rail to either coast of the Continental United States. But, who were the people who built the railroad? This exhibit focuses on the workers of the Central Pacific Railway, who were mostly Chinese immigrants. Their story is told through photographs, sketches, and artifacts that were left behind as these amazing people constructed the railroad. This travelling exhibit from the Utah Division of Arts and Museums and Utah State History will be available until June 17th.
