Come Visit the Museum!
By Ashlyn Huggard
Have
you ever wondered how Northern Davis County came to be? What makes it so
special and unique? Come to the Heritage Museum of Layton to find out! You will
learn about early settlements that developed into the places we know today, notable
people who influenced the community, and events that shaped who we are today.
Currently,
the museum is working on putting together new exhibits! Our newest exhibit is
about the Klondike rush and several individuals from Layton who participated in
it. John W. Burton of Kaysville left with his brother Heber in 1896 to
brave the Alaskan frontier in search of gold. Excerpts of his journal entries
describe the hardships and dangers they faced. Come in to see John’s relics
from his Klondike adventure!
The
museum is also looking for untold stories to connect us to a worldwide
community, to celebrate diversity, and to create an inclusive, shared history
of where we call home. If you are interested in adding a new perspective to our
history or new item to our collections, please contact us!
