Tests Showed Coliform Bacteria in Layton City Water
Layton City routinely monitors for drinking water contaminates throughout the City’s water system. Regrettably, 12 percent of the samples taken in April 2021 showed the presence of total coliform bacteria. The standard is that no more than 5 percent of samples may do so. This is the first time the City’s water system has exceeded this drinking water standard. This is not an emergency. If it had been, residents would have been notified immediately. Coliform bacteria are generally not harmful themselves however, coliforms can be a sign that there could be a problem with the water system’s treatment or distribution pipes. The source of the coliform has been identified and the problem has been resolved by disinfecting the water distribution system pipes. Additional samples do not show presence of coliform bacteria. Customers in the impacted area have been mailed the included notice. A map of the impacted area is shown ( PDF Version Map).
